Christmas Market of crafts and giftware
From 10am to 8pm
Piazzale Donizetti in Bratto/Dorga
With the white peaks of the Orobic Alps, the slopes of the Presolana and Monte Pora surrounding us…the village is ablaze with bright lights, the atmosphere embraces Advent while festive jingles, the aroma of mulled wine and the fragrance of mouth-watering Alpine gastronomy fill the air…
The Orobic Christmas Market not only reconfirms itself as a valuable occasion for quality shopping and a fortunate remedy to gift-giving anxiety, it is also a welcomed moment of culture, togetherness and celebration.
Over forty exhibitors from all over northern Italy will arrive for the occasion, happy to fill the typical small wooden huts with artefacts, decorations, gift ideas, household items, souvenirs and specialty confectionery all handmade and respecting tradition. These are not mere merchants but talented artists/artisans who should be admired while they continue to work away inside their wooden stalls and workshops. Among the shops, one can find items of glass, iron, pottery, plaster, textiles, wax, or a simple item improved using decoupage... small masterpieces which proudly represent Italian craft tradition at its best and guarantees to be a great surprise under the tree.
For this special event, all of Castione will be decorated for the occasion and various shows, events and initiatives will take place all with a Christmas theme. On the streets you will hear gospel concerts, mountain choirs and folk groups singing Christmas Carols. Surprises and magical moments for children wait to be discovered.
However, the protagonist of this exhibition will always be the typical products from the area – pork legs, cotechini (local salami), Christmas cookies, Panettone, cheeses, preserves, sausages – all made locally and ready to be tasted. And yes there is a food stand selling hot drinks and the ‘all but too necessary’, roasted chestnuts.
